The singer reminds me of a dorm mate, Jeff, I had when I was 20. We were both working at a resort in WY, shared a room. He had long blond hair, was a “head banger”(loved guns ‘n roses), was pretty much my opposite outwardly (I was clean-cut, assembled at church Sundays). But we got along well. We were both kinda quiet and loners, and had a brotherly bond between us.
My favourite new artist is a guy, George Kopaliani from Georgia. He composes digital music. Normally I wouldn’t gravitate to this kind of music, but I really like the stuff that he first came out with, 2019-2022. His very newest stuff, not so crazy about.
Gordon Lightfoot is an absolute treasure and he came from my dad’s field area. We listened to a LOT of Lightfoot. My mom even saw him live. (She was in the middle of the hippie scene in Toronto and saw some amazing acts, like Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Phil Ochs… still jealous.) He’s in my top 5 for sure. I actually shed a tear when he died.
Another Canadian treasure. I really like Caravanserai. My mom and sister saw her live; must have been incredible. Tori Amos has that same orchestral style and I’ve seen her… seven times. (I don’t have a problem!)
Rebecca, this has made my day, what a great choice from you. I saw Chris Smither at winery in country Victoria years ago and it was a great day.
My favourite song is also a Chris Smither song, I Don't Know

The last verse says it all,
Who's got all the answers if it isn't you?
No one's got them all though some will say they do.
If they try to fool me, then what should I say?
You know if you're just polite they usually go away.
What's the dumbest question that ever there could be?
The only dumb ones are the ones that you don't ask of me.
And the wisest answer's one you learned a long time ago.
I don't know.
I’ve never seen him live, but I keep an eye on the Texas tour dates because I MUST SEE HIM LIVE before I die.

Mark Lanegan is my favorite singer!
There's not a ton of videos with single songs so I decided to share the Mad Season clip. For solo Mark- start with his album Bubblegum
Thanks Rebecca! I really enjoyed the song you shared
I hadn’t heard of him before, I like the vibe! Also his hair.
I’m working through all these recommendations today! Thank you all! This is super fun for me.

Thanks! Finding new music is my absolute favorite thing ever! I’ll let you know what I think.
Adding one of his songs to my playlist

I found a Turkish artist named Tarkan I really vibe with, but I don’t understand a word he sings!

I’d never hear this before. It’s really good. Not my usual style, but I can appreciate it very much.
That's a great song, I hadn't heard of his music before. It reminds of Gordon Lightfoot who also has some perfectly crafted songs.

Does anyone even write songs like If You Could Read My Mind anymore? Where is this caliber of artistry happening today?
Hippie/love child
that's some fine picking, and a great voice
I'm always exploring music from the 20s through 40s, and this week, this song is my "favorite" though I can never choose just one song. It's the song in my head. https://archive.org/details/78_have-you-got-any-castles-baby_gus-arnheim-and-his-orchestra-jimmy-farrell-mercer_gbia0495289a
Can see two young people “cutting a rug” on the dance floor in the 30s/40s while the singer sings live with his band

Also called John Denver Biden
Way cool!
Thank you Rebecca, not heard this before ‘i’d pay attention to that little known dimension, the taste of endless time’ … o my!
This to me is poignant beyond words:

I hadn’t heard that before, thank you. We lost a great one in Amy Winehouse.

Good song. Good energy and great execution. I didn't know this artist at all.
I prefer instrumental music. I kinda like old music. Here's an old song that is mostly sweet, and has good guitar in it.
Moonlight shadow, by Mike Oldfield: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e80qhyovOnA
I just listed to a song called “ Dudu”. Had subtitles. It’s a lot of fun. He’s very talented!
Hoist the Colours sung by Bobby Bass
https://youtu.be/qlrvzLRgzdc?si=NW6pfVO7pFGGVJRY just love these deep voices!
Thank you! I am making a promise to myself that I will check out every song a commenter submits!
This is so unlike anything I’ve heard recently! I’d never have found this on my own, but it’s really cool! Thanks!
I don't know if I have a favorite song, but Tracy Chapman's Fast Car always comes to mind.
