Rod Dreher and Andrew Sullivan
If you are not familiar with either of these two writers, I would encourage you to become so as soon as possible. Rod Dreher and Andrew Sullivan are friends; Dreher appeared on Sullivan’s podcast recently:
What I find fascinating is that Sullivan — who has done some amazing and very admirable work, especially recently on the “TQ agenda” (very much worth the time to read) — is an enthusiastic promoter of the HIV AIDS story, and Dreher himself is a victim of chronic fatigue syndrome, which may well be the “other side [non risk group] of AIDS.” Consider his piece on his battle with CFS:
Have they ever talked about the uncanny chronological overlap and disturbing immunological similarities between AIDS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? Are they both the “inflammation that never goes away?” Considering “HIV disease” is now considered to be characterized by chronic inflammation, rather than the loss of T cells as we had been led to believe for so long, this seems like a question worthy of future research.
We will never solve AIDS without a thorough examination of non HIV AIDS. That’s the lesson here.

Why CMV?

In June 1981, 4 days before the initial MMWR report it was reported that 'Acute CMV infection is associated with a reversal in the normal ratio of helper to suppressor T lymphocytes with relative and absolute decreases in T helper cells and corresponding increases in T suppressor cells.' The precise immune deficiency marker seen in AIDS cases.

full title should have been 'Pneumocystis Pneumonia, CMV -- Los Angeles.'
'In the period October 1980-May 1981, 5 young men, all active homosexuals, were treated for biopsy-confirmed Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia at 3 different hospitals in Los Angeles, California. Two of the patients died. All 5 patients had laboratory-confirmed previous or current cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and candidal mucosal infection. Case reports of these patients follow.'
The reason this obvious explanation was discarded and dismissed by the KSOI Task Force was due to Don Francis and his conviction from the get-go that AIDS was caused by a retrovirus. As the very earliest 'early decider' in the 'HIV causes AIDS' 'Availability cascade' Francis influenced Jim Curran, Myron Essex, Robert Gallo, Rozembaum in Paris to pursue his single-retrovirus cause of AIDS.
