As I’ve mentioned recently, the propaganda around PrEP has been really going into overdrive lately. Since just over a year ago, when I started covering PrEP seriously, it has gone from something on the fringes of medicine to IN YOUR FACE. Recently, I was alerted to the following article:
(Fun fact: I was born in Malawi.) The article, which has no less than seventeen authors, follows the same basic playbook of all such articles, which is basically PrEP good, people bad for not taking PrEP, or good for taking it. It’s a peculiar rewards-based system. PrEP at this point in time reminds me of nothing so much as the Covid vaccines when they first came out — recall the pressure being brought to bear from all sides that if you didn’t take the vaccine, you were a really bad person? A lot of people fell for it, and in some sense, you kind of can’t blame them. That’s a lot of pressure to withstand. We are wired to want to protect ourselves first and others a very close second, and the story we were told was that we were protecting others by getting vaccinated, and of course most people believed it—what other option have they been allowed to hear? The same moralizing tone is very apparent with PrEP. Here’s their conclusion, which is underwhelming:
In this survey, prior PrEP knowledge and use were low while PrEP interest was high. High risk sexual behavior was associated with willingness to use PrEP. Strategies to increase PrEP awareness and universal access, may reduce HIV transmission.
None of this is entirely surprising. Of course if your self-assessed risk is low, you will be less likely to choose toxic chemotherapy to manage a condition you have yet to acquire. (This is how nuts HIV AIDS has gotten. The current STANDARD OF CARE insists on simply drugging the entire population in an attempt to prevent “infection” with a virus that would just be treated with the exact same drugs. If you feel like you’re in a hall of mirrors, you’re not alone.)
But what I’m most interested in is your reaction to the language used in the title of the piece. “Awareness of and willingness to use”?? It’s possibly even creepier than “compliance” and “retention in care.” Is this not awfully ministry of truth-esque? I’m curious what you think. Consider the comments an open thread to discuss the phenomenon of being coerced into a medical treatment or procedure.

Drug companies want to sell their "products". My wife and I were watching a show on TV last night and there was a 3 to 1 ratio of drug to other commercials. Convincing people that using their products makes life better is marketing 101. I am becoming more and more convinced that there are very few beneficial medicines. I also believe there is a sinister aspect to the "marketing" of drugs and vaccines, whether it's Prep, covid or for any other other malady. Drugs not only affect a person physically, but can also affect their mental and emotional states, meaning harm to the brain. This makes a person docile, passive, less able to be creative, think criticality, in other words, more easily controlled, exactly what drug companies want, governments want, maybe enemies of the west want, a population that won't fight back.
To me "awareness" and "willingness to use" suggest they are covertly mocking us, as in "have we done sufficient marketing to persuade you to willingly take our poison even though it has no benefit and will likely harm you?"
