It's very obvious it was necessary.
It's not so obvious that HIV/AIDS and Covid was also a purge of "undisciplined" scientists, lawyers, teachers, police agents and soldier. Now research and everything else will become even worse!
The main difference is that we don't see (yet) the creation of any dependent class or special group of people who are bribed continuously to keep the con alive with the false pretext that now they are chronically "ill." Which, among other things, is an insult to people who are actually ill and get nothing because they don't belong to a special group.
