<< Also, he claims that “the link between HIV and AIDS is incontrovertible,” and in the next breath he admits we have no idea how it works to actually destroy T cells. (We still don’t. THIRTY YEARS LATER.) >>
Well that would seem to presume that there is an "it" and an association between "it" and T-cell count and between T-cell count and immunity.
Paul is the guy who blocked me because he was diving into the other-virus theories of AIDS and I believe the whole paradigm is wrong. His potential audience is already niche and then he blocks them when they don't agree.
I find it very strange that these two good friends had this very public spat. If someone called me a murderer, I would be pissed...unless it was all part of a script. I don't like that one of the faces of the AIDS activist movement (Kramer) was a very well-connected Hollywood guy whose family had ties to D.C. It reminds of the celebrities that promoted reckless emergency powers during COVID. It's almost like this "activism" plays right into the hands of those wanting to use pharma to carry out their agendas.
Somehow they managed to make arguing about AIDS somewhat…entertaining? There was way too much switching between outrage and laughing for me not to question it. I’m wondering if Kramer (and friends) started off with good intentions but then he became drunk off of his own philanthropy and ego. You see how the government looks at activist groups. Why did Fauci have a soft spot for this one? I imagine because they were useful.
I think it was around 1993 or 1994 maybe that I had my first HIV test, which would have been a generic ELISA (which was negative). I was a nervous wreck and we had to wait for 10 days for the results which made it feel like two weeks. I can say from first hand experience, just like now, the LGBT community became the guardians of the new 'HIV causes AIDS' paradigm. The counselor/nurse who administered the test was a gay man, and over the years I did testing at other places that were almost always LGBT centers.
Of course, given my highly challenging religious upbringing my sexuality was pretty suppressed and what I had done was so far away from the kind of sexual expression happening in the late 70s, but the fear to get tested was always present. I see that now, but I mention this because I have to wonder how many gay men literally died from fear. The nocebo effect on steroids. John Lauritsen talks about this.
So yeah, Kramer going into full hyper-drama mode about a billion positive people does reflect the kind of internal hysteria going on back then in the LGBT community. This is the single biggest stumbling block to really getting to the truth about this whole thing, because there's deep emotional sentiment tied into the 'we were just blameless victims to this scourge and the medical system is our best friend' mental framework that is still the zietgiest in the gay community to this day.
I had my first HIV test around that time as well, and I remember having to wait two weeks. Terrifying the patient. (I’ve had two since, both mandatory - one for my green card medical exam (I’m now a citizen and Bush eliminated the HIV test requirement from the immigration medical exam which came into effect in 2010), and another during my third pregnancy because of some government dictate that required either I be tested or my baby be tested.) I remember being very worried (I’d had what I’d incorrectly perceived as a risky encounter and there was a LOT of fear mongering in the early nineties) and my doctor was super dismissive. “Oh, you’re a straight woman, I’m more worried about chlamydia or pregnancy. I guarantee you’ll be negative.” The bias is real, and I know there are stories about the self reporting affecting the test result analysis. I don’t know how much credence to give them.
In Australia, we became aware early on that 'HIV' and especially the KS situation, was actually only 50 men, supposedly but not provably gay, equally split between NY and San Fran (junkie capitals of the world at the time). So it was seen as yet another American drama, leading to the original Safe Sex Response of 'Just don't have sex with Americans'.
Larry Kramer, BTW, was seen as a complete idiot by the gay press here. Gaydom and its activist types have always been a problem, in the same way as women and Feminist activist types. The one clearly does not speak for the other, in either case.
Of course, all sorts of extrapolations eventually came into play here as well, including matters of misdiagnosis and malpractice and media latch-ons like 'AZT killed a whole generation of gay men'. Well, it didn't. That's a media beat up again, fuelled by salacious prejudice.
All of which was largely dead history, until Covid arrived. To older gay men (you know, the ones who are all supposed to be dead), this was EXACTLY the same bullshit, from exactly the same sources. Some went along with it, some pulled back, some went their own way on the issues. Just like last time. Only now, gay men in general have become fed up with American dramas. There's your real epidemic...
That’s super interesting about the treatment of Kramer by the Australian media. Very different to the U.S. Thank you for this comment, it’s given me a lot to think about.
Americans are only 4% of the world population, but sometimes it seems that they're 90% of the problem or the opinion. Look up Derek Jarman. UK HIV era survivor and commentator. Different than LK.
One of the many tragedies of the AIDS pandemic is the 'Turkeys voting for Xmas' , 'pump us full of drugs', approach / mindset of many gay activists. An honourable exception is Michael Callen who worked with Joe Sonneband to produce one of the best expositions of the etiology of AIDS, “We Know Who We Are: Two Gay Men Declare War on Promiscuity.''
Anything said by Fauci about AIDS has to be taken with a huge pinch of salt. I learned the other day from James Curran that Fauci was the main author of Surgeon General Koop’s 'Understanding AIDS'. He was Koop's doctor and worked next to him at the NIH.
I was diagnosed HIV positive in 2006 and lived without ARV for about 17 years. But in March 2023 I was diagnosed with cancer(not sure it is HIV related) and started ARV along with the Chemo and Radiation therapy. It has been 4 months since I started ARV and I want to stop taking the drugs because the drug I gave me hyperlipidemia.(I got other light side effects too but they are endurable)Right before I started my ARV my CD4 count was 33 which is extremely low.If HIV doesn’t exist why my CD4 count is so low compared to other normal people?During 17 years I believed that the HIV theory was all a lie because I was kind of living evidence. But now, I am so confused and hope to find the right answer. Is there anyone who can help me with this?
There are many things that cause CD4 counts to be low. I often see the drugs causing the disease they are meant to prevent. There isn't strong evidence for the existence of viruses as defined, so there is much weaker evidence that a virus causes a collection of > 20 diseases under an umbrella called AIDS.

Oh I know, we’re stuck with the outdated eighties model of AIDS here.
What is the outdated eighties model of AIDS?
A transmissible monkey virus (HIV) causes AIDS.

You know, I had that same thought myself that it seemed almost scripted. I guess we’ll never know.

Rebecca, hi. Thx for sharing.
I’ve got an even better one coming later this week!

Anything Fauci has to say about anything should be taken with a grain of salt.
Fauci lied about AIDS and Covid. Kary Mullis said Fauci didn't know anything about anything.
