Last week I had alluded to the dearth of songs that are long (by long I’d say anything over 6:30, but that is highly arbitrary and open to argument). When I think of long songs that are absolutely worth every second, this song by the son of the novelist Larry McMurtry is at the top of my list. It also does a pretty good job at capturing an interesting aspect of the (admittedly trailer park adjacent) culture in the part of the world in which I live.
Let me know what you think in the comments, and also what “long songs” you think are worth the time.
Really fun song... great guitar playing.
Calls to mind Thanksgiving road trips when I was a kid. My dad had a cassette radio recording he caught of Alice's Restaurant which helped fill the time. It was not the same as the record version ... it was much better... much funnier. I can't link it because I've never been able to find the same version my dad had on cassette.
But that song is well over 6 minutes... and if Arlo was in the right mood it was very funny.
Hi Rebecca, a good story, well told, thanks. https://youtu.be/pJV2pWFyfn4 ... coming in at 12 minutes, it's an impossible to rush, kind of a 'backdrop to the era'!
ps I was trying to find your email address regarding the PrEp stories you asked for a week or so ago, but couldn't locate?
