News roundup: Eliminating the CDC’s “HIV” prevention division; RFKJ on poppers; more coercion for healthy individuals to take “long acting antiretrovirals”
Are we living in hell?
This will be a short roundup of this week’s news relevant to “HIV” and PrEP. First, we have a piece whose title is deceptive—the “HIV prevention division” isn’t being eliminated, it’s just being moved to another department of HHS.
Trump administration considers plan to eliminate CDC's HIV prevention division
As I mentioned:
The Trump administration is considering a plan to eliminate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s division focused on HIV prevention and potentially move its responsibilities over to another department within the Department of Health and Human Services, according to a source familiar with the plan.
There’s not a whole lot to say about this, but I have to say moving things from the federal to the state level—if that indeed is an option here—is A-OK with me. (Emphasis mine.)
HIV prevention advocates warned the drastic change could force states to bear the burden on prevention programs and could cost U.S. taxpayers millions of dollars if the virus resurges.
Resurges? “HIV” has been flat in the U.S. for forty years—they play around with increases and decreases in certain demographic groups, but it always seems to shake out that the prevalence is constant.
There’s not a lot here, but this last quote made me laugh.
In January, federal health officials scrubbed a swath of HIV-related content from the CDC’s website as part of the Trump’s administration’s effort to remove all context related to gender identity.
How is “HIV” related to gender identity, anyway? Moving on.
RFK Jr. Thinks Poppers Causes AIDS. Is He Behind the Crackdown on the Drug?
It’s not entirely certain that RFKJ thinks “popper cause AIDS.” Also, as a libertarian that thinks you should be able to buy whatever drugs you want without a prescription, I’m of two minds of this. Do I think poppers should be banned? No, because there’s not a lot I’d be happy with a federal ban on. Unrestricted speech regarding their effects would be a good start.
Here is what Edge Media News has to say:
When used for recreationally, they produce mild euphoria, warmth, and dizziness with rapid onset and short duration. They became known as "poppers" in the 1970s when vials of amyl nitrate were placed in a glass sleave, then crushed and inhaled. In the United States, amyl nitrate was a prescription drug from 1937 – 1960; but after recreational use increased in the late 1960s, it became a prescription drug again. But butyl nitrate, a comparable variation, remained legal and was bottled for general usage. They were outlawed in 1988 by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. Distributors turned to a third alkyl nitrate called isopropyl nitrate, but they were banned; but a loophole cited an exception for commercial use, such as a cleaning solvent. At this point the drug received the euphonism, "Video Head Cleaner." But the FDA has been sparse with its crackdowns, save for a few advisories. In 2021, the FDA posted a warning for consumers not to ingest or inhale poppers.
Not exactly a glowing endorsement of poppers, is it? One last quote:
While use of poppers carries risks, especially when combined with ED medications, they carry a low risk of dependence and addiction. It should be noted that skin contact can cause burns and drinking them can be lethal.
Low risk of addiction? I’m sure they’re fantastic, then. Like I said, I’m against banning them but I am very much FOR increased awareness of their risk, whether they have any role in immunodeficiency or not.
Lastly:
Noooooooo! Just no! We’ve discussed long acting injectables on this substack many times, and I don’t know how anyone is falling for this nonsense when it is so clearly the natural endpoint of forty years of failed vaccine trials—that almost certainly failed because there was no unique pathogen against which to vaccinate.
This piece is short and says about what you’d expect it to say, so I won’t be quoting it. I do love how they try to double their consumer base by claiming “1.1-1.2 million” Americans at risk for “HIV” (whatever that means) that might benefit from lifelong chemotherapy PrEP. Suffice it to say that the push for the fake vaccine is indeed eventuating as my husband had predicted—the only thing he got wrong was that he thought it would be an mRNA vaccine (fair assumption), rather than massive yearly doses of toxic chemotherapy.
With that, I will conclude with the following song, which seems oddly appropriate. As always, comment below and let me know what you think!
Mullis said if you ever want to get rid of AIDS, get rid of AIDS research.
You know the irony of the 'burden of prevention' to the states, is that 'HIV' is already doing a pretty good job of preventing itself given its flat growth. I honestly don't think most people don't understand that you can't have an 'epidemic' with a flat growth curve. At best you call that endemic.
Regarding the poppers thing, I noticed on Twitter an upswing in guys freaking out over 'the government taking away our poppers'. I made a comment on one guy's post and he blocked me. Here's his histrionic post: "The FDA raiding Double Scorpio is absolutely a sign of rising fascism and the continuation of attempts to re-criminalize gay sex and queer sexuality in addition to further criminalizing and stigmatizing people living with HIV."
He followed up with this post: "Double Scorpio are our neighbors here in Austin and they do a lot to support the LGBTQ+ community here. I hope they’re able to at least reopen their apparel and home fragrance lines to continue to stay in business. Fascism is the enemy of joy and pleasure."
That just blows my mind that guys like this think poppers producers are supporting the gay community. Just wow. I posted that poppers are potent oxidizing agents that cause methemoglobinemia. He blocked me.
