Monday, February 2 I sat down for a talk with author Ben Appel about the cult of gender ideology as well as more well known religious cults. Ben grew up in the Catholic Charismatic movement; specifically the Lamb of God covenant community (in a strange turn of events, I also grew up in the Catholic Charismatic community—it’s not large and that’s why it’s strange.) He and his family left during his adolescence and as an adult, Ben got very involved in social justice, to the point that he eventually went back to school at Columbia University as a non traditional student, at which point he began to see the “cult like” aspects of political correctness and gender ideology and the scales fell away from his eyes, leading to his work in gender-critical thinking and this absolute must read book.
