The following one-minute, totally condescending video is on the website greaterthan.org. (As in “Greater than HIV,” although I appreciate the mathematical wordplay.) There’s not a lot new here, but it’s worth paying attention to.
Five Things to Know About PrEP
Of course, we probably know all five of these things, but here they are again, in italics, with my commentary in non-italics:
PrEP is for people who do not have HIV who want “added protection” (quotes added by me). In other words, HIV drugs are for everyone! No need to actually have (or appear to have via fraudulent testing practices) the condition being treated anymore, to be treated for it! When is this insanity going to stop???
Available as a daily pill or a long lasting injectable. Does anyone else think that the injectables, in particular, represent a very slippery slope?
When taken as prescribed, PrEP is “highly effective” against HIV. You’ll notice that in the video, there is a visual accompanying the text that shows a kind of “counter” starting at like 92% and then “counting up” before fading away at 98%. No references for that figure, and in fact the figure itself is missing—it just fades away at 98%! What is this even supposed to mean?
PrEP requires a prescription. Any health care provider can prescribe PrEP. No comment; we all know medical doctors are almost all simply gatekeepers of pharmaceutical drugs.
Most insurance plans, including Medicaid, cover PrEP. If you don’t have insurance or need financial assistance, there are options. Just remember, the pharmaceutical companies are not giving these away for free. Someone is footing the bill, and a large part of this comes from our taxpayer dollars. Someone needs to come up with a constitutional amendment or something we can vote on to deal with this. And that’s all I have to say about that.
What do you think of this ridiculous, patronizing video?

Thanks for posting. The video is pure marketing hype and an insult to our intelligence!
