This stunning piece is by the British singer who goes by the name Self Esteem. I believe she recently played the lead in Cabaret in a London theatre. At any rate, this song is not only haunting but confusing. She is addressing someone with whom she has a complicated relationship, and it is unclear exactly who that is—a lover? A friend who betrayed her? Her younger self?
Anyway, here’s the video. If you listen and have any ideas regarding the source of my confusion, please drop them in the comments. I do recommend a listen though—it’s a very unusual piece of music, and I think everyone can relate to at least some of what she says.
Back to regularly scheduled HIV AIDS posting after this.
Hi Rebecca, yes, that’s very effecting song, first I’ve heard of Self Esteem, clearly a talented poet/artist; I imagine that she’s having a dialogue with herself about her obsession with a lover she’s broken from: soothing herself, getting over and not getting over, wanting and not wanting to move on?
